WOLFMAN VISITS COLLEGE
On 24th January 2008 we were very lucky to be visited by Shaun Ellis who, amid busy filming and research commitments, found time to deliver a spellbinding afternoon and evening of entertainment and education at the college.

The afternoon began with workshops for year 6, 7 and 8 who learnt about the roles found in the structure of a wild wolf pack and the behaviours associated with them. This was developed further by comparing the calls each member of the pack commonly makes and the students had a howling great time when they tried to form their own wolf packs and communicate with Shaun.
Each session ended with a very intense question and answer session for Shaun ranging from "What did you have to eat when you lived wild with the wolves?" through "What injuries have you had?" to "How long do wild wolves and captive wolves live for?". The afternoons excitement was followed in the evening by "An Audence with Shaun Ellis" where Shaun and his assistants were joined by members of the College's wider community for an evening of behaviour, physiology, biography and good humour.

YEAR 8 ELIZABETHAN ASSEMBLY - November 2007
In November Year 8 students presented an Assemby to the whole school on the theme of Elizabethan Ship Building and Sir Richard Grenville (after whom the school is named). Alison Boyle from Hinks Boatyard in Appledore gave an illustrated talk about building an Elizabethan Galleon, based on the Golden Hind, which was made in the 70's at the yard.

A replica section of the ship's hull was put together on the stage with the aid of Alan Waters, the College Carpenter whose family were boat builders in Appledore.
Year 8 art students displayed a large wall hanging they had painted of The Golden Hind. The session ended with a poetry reading of "The Revenge" by Lord Tennyson and completed a very informative and enjoyable Assembly highlighting the history and heritage of North Devon.
