SUMMER 2007: OUTSTANDING GCSE RESULTS MATCH RECORD A-LEVELS
Following last week’s best-ever A-Level results, Grenville College’s GCSE students are today celebrating excellent results of their own. With an overall A* - C pass rate of 82% [the national average is 63%] 84% of Grenville’s students gained 5 or more passes at A* - C, with 65% gaining 8 or more at those grades. 54% of the grades achieved were A*, A and B, while an impressive 25% were A* and A. Grenville students sat an average of 9.3 GCSE exams each, equalling last year’s record, and 65% of the students obtained five or more high grade passes including English, Maths and Science, one of the new “league table” comparisons.

GCSEOutstanding individual performances came from Lauren Kandasamy [whose older brother Oliver gained four A-grade A-Levels last week] with ten A* and one A grade, and Jessica Mill with eight A* and three A’s,while triplets Sam, Sophie & Tom Carlyon all did well. 13 year olds Alice Jackson and Tim Hosgood celebrated A grades in Maths, which they took three years early.

Headmaster Andy Waters expressed his delight at the results, which represent tremendous success for students from a wide ability range.

“The quality of teaching, and the hard work of the students at Grenville, have not only secured excellent results for our high achievers, but have also delivered many individual successes that provide a sound platform for further study. Teaching staff have worked just as hard as the students to achieve this level of success, and everyone should feel very proud today. I am really pleased to see a continuation of the strong academic foundation of the College, and further proof of our expertise in meeting the needs of students at many levels.”

SUMMER 2007: GRENVILLE GRABS RECORD A-LEVEL HAUL
Staff and students at Grenville College were proud and delighted with their performance at A-Level this year. There was an overall pass rate of 100%, with a best-ever figure of 65% at grades A and B. Almost 40% of grades achieved were A’s [significantly above the national average].

A levelOutstanding individual performances came from Merry George and Oliver Kandasamy, with 4 A grades apiece; Oliver also gained two A grades at AS level and will be going up to Oxford to read Physics. Rob Bailey, Emma Brown and Circle Pang also gained an impressive three A grades each.

Grenville’s Headmaster Andy Waters paid tribute to the hard work, commitment and dedication of Grenville’s staff and students.

“These are wonderful results, which show the strength and depth of the Sixth Form at Grenville. Our students are actively encouraged to sit the exams of their choice and many have exceeded their highest expectations. There are a number who may not have believed themselves capable of A Level success who are celebrating today: we are as proud of their achievements as we are of our ‘high flyers’. These results give the students a secure platform for their future education and careers. The Sixth Form and the staff have once again enhanced the College’s academic reputation by their efforts. I am proud and delighted to have such success to celebrate as we prepare for the new academic year.”

A school's results, viewed simply as a bald set of statistics, however, can never show the whole picture.

Individual triumphs that don’t register at the top end of the results table can too easily be lost or overlooked.

When everything is averaged out, rounded-up, bench-marked and tabulated, how do you notice the boy everyone thought would struggle simply to complete the course but who has passed every subject he sat?

How do you rank the girl who was expected to get D and E grades but who finished up with a B and two Cs?

These are real, extraordinary achievements, absolutely on a par with the three A grades gained by the student we all knew would get three A grades, proud though we are of such deserved success.

At Grenville, we make sure that it is not only the highest performing students who receive accolades and prizes; here the achievements of ALL will be recognised and celebrated.
