At Grenville we believe that every pupil should be given the chance to succeed at sport, whatever his or her strengths and talents may be.
Thanks to the College’s excellent sports facilities, and to our talented and motivated staff, our students develop existing skills and discover hidden talents, which grow into lifelong active interests.
Virtually every popular sport, from football and rugby to gymnastics and swimming, from cricket and netball to athletics and tennis, is available in our indoor sports hall, swimming pool and superb games fields, which include an all-weather hockey pitch and netball courts. Grenville competes with other schools and colleges across a wide range of sports, with a long and impressive record of success.
Individual students have achieved success and recognition not only in House and School teams here at Grenville, but in representing club, district county and even country in their chosen sport.
Last year, for example, three Grenville pupils were members of the victorious Great Britain under-16 rowing crew against France.
Grenville is just as proud of its reputation in the field of creative arts, in which our students are encouraged to participate, both within and beyond the daily school curriculum. Many of our pupils learn a musical instrument and make full use of some very up-to-date technology, including computers, synthesizers, electronic keyboards and tone generators. [Your children will explain.]
There are instrumental groups, a wind band, school orchestra and choir and regular performances take place in the College’s award-winning modern Assembly Hall.
Grenville students recently produced a professional-sounding CD in the College studio.
The Assembly Hall is the venue also for an eclectic range of productions devised by our Drama Department in the College’s studio workshop. Grenville pupils also take part in local arts festivals and take examinations in speech and drama. We are proud to be the only school in the region to participate in a prestigious drama programme run by the National Theatre.
The College has also developed a strong painting tradition within the excellent and ambitious Art Department. Set in idyllic scenery, with large formal gardens and surrounding woods, there are two spacious and well-equipped studios, a well-stocked art library, printmaking facilities and a pottery, all of which offer pupils opportunities to experiment with a diversity of techniques and styles.
