Geography

Geography is the subject that holds the key to our future
Michael Palin

Geography is a very dynamic and contemporary subject, and thus the Geography department is a place of wide learning opportunities, where enthusiasm and enquiry is nurtured and developed. Geography teaching at Grenville College takes place in two specialist Geography classrooms which are well resourced with the necessary literature, information communications technology and equipment. The two specialist Geography teachers have a range of knowledge and understanding of a wide number of Geographical and related issues. The main aims of the department are to nurture and develop the “Geographers of tomorrow”. The department expects to empower pupils with self confidence, an appreciation for places and people, useful skills, a sense of citizenship and to share in a real enthusiasm for all things geographical.

    Syllabus AS / A2

    Geography

Post 16 studies follow the AQA Geography syllabus.  This syllabus is designed to increase the choice offered to students studying GCE Geography, allowing for specialism and progression to higher education and employment.
The AQA Geography specification offers a strong foundation in both physical and human geography and in practical applied skills.  It addresses many themes which are, and will be, important during this century such as concern for the environment and an appreciation of global changes and inequalities.  The specification allows students to develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of physical, human and environmental geography whilst also exploring the interrelationships between physical and human environments in a synoptic context
