A-levels are divided into two sections:
AS level taken in the Lower Sixth year and A2 level taken in the Upper Sixth.
You can stop studying a subject with an AS level, or take it on to A2.
A full A-level combines the AS and A2 scores.
[Most students take four AS courses and carry on with three A2’s.]
Every year we design the Sixth Form timetable to allow students the widest possible choice of subjects.
In the Lower Sixth, students normally have eight lessons per week in each subject, with a further three lessons allocated to Games.
[Yes, we still expect our students to spend one afternoon a week at Games, as well as participating in extra-curricular activities.]
The Sixth Form Review
This is a continuous process throughout the Sixth Form where we explore ways to help students develop confidence, deal with problems that arise and maximise achievement. We give feedback on attainment and effort and write a report in the Lower and Upper Sixth year. The student’s personal Tutor will be on hand throughout to offer guidance and advice, including university applications and GAP year and career planning.
